Influence of Global Market Research Industry Grows as Revenue Hits $28 BN

MONTRÉAL, 23 September 2008 - Global market research turnover tops US $28bn in 2007 – a growth rate of 6.5%, according to the ESOMAR Global Market Research Report released today.

This follows strong worldwide growth in the past six years of an average of 6% and confirms the continued advance of market research as a key business tool.

Research firms have mainly reported a continued increase during the first half of 2008 in a dynamic industry growing in line or faster than the global economy.

Of the five largest markets, Germany experienced good gains, taking third position from France with a spend of US $2,659 million, while the US and the UK held their lead in first and second position with respective spends of US $8,726 million and US $2,771.

GfK, with its headquarters in Germany, moved from fifth to fourth in the largest companies category, while The Nielson Company continues to dominate, increasing its revenue over the year by US $524 million. The largest gains recorded were made by online specialists.  Read full story>>
